tAhh this may represent a problem. There are 3 wires going to the 'regulator rectifier' and there were only 2 wires on a 91. Anyone know what kinda problems I may encounter only running 2 of them, is it possible?

got the 91 diagram?

Please fill me in on what we're attempting to accomplish here too.

What part of the sled is a 91, and what is a 96?

See the coil on the stator plate that has 3 wires coming from it to the rectifier, on a 91 it only has 2 wires coming from it. What differences do you think it'll make?

I have the 91 wiring printed next to me. I have it saved on the pc at work and I'm at home. I'm putting a stator plate from a 91 rxl into my 96 rxl. That is the only difference, that one coil on the stator plate. If I put it all back together and something doesn't work I'll be pissed.

Can you see which wires they are? I would guess it's just the two OUTSIDE wires from that specific coil, correct?

Yep subtract the 'brn/w' wire from that coil.

It has to be. Since it's just going into the rectifier, I would assume (95%) that you'd be good to attach the 2 wires from the 91 plate to the Gray with white trailer, and Gray wire.

FIRE IT UP!

If I had the 91 diagram I could tell you 100%.....

Worst case scenario you would just switch the wires at the rectifier around....

That's kinda what I'm thinking but I wanna be 100% sure first. That coil has nothing to do with the cdi box so it should run regardless, I just don't want to be missing something and have to track it down while it's stuffed in the sled. The engine is on the bench now because i couldn't get the flywheel off. I'll fuck with it tomorrow. I'll post up the 91 diagram tomorrow too. Thanks

Here is the 91 diagram. I was thinking about it in bed last night... Wouldn't it be ok to jump power from say the gry to the brn/w, I could put a jumper in the plug.

OK I just looked at the test values and there a large portion of the coil is between the brown/wh and gray/wh. I say tie the brown/wh and gray/wh on the regulator together and put the gray/wh from the stator to them.

So you think I should split the gry/wh and jump it over to where the brn/wh was on the plug?

Yes.

Or try it the first way I said and leave the brown/white not connected to anything... throw a meter on the battery to see if you're charging, etc. If you're good then tape up and seal the dangling leftover wire from the regulator and call it a day. You have less of a chance of hurting something this way as well, and can always connect the wire up later since it's external of your engine.

I love piecing old and new shit together.

^^ That's what I think I'll do. I'm still waiting on a new flywheel to get this bitch together. It better be here by saturday so I can rip some snow before the shit melts.

Update.... I ended up putting a jumper in the plug from gry/wh to where the brn/wh was on the old one. I got the stator put back, engine in and hooked up. As soon as the flywheel gets here I can put it on, put recoil back on, put pipes on, RIDE!! I'm hoping the flywheel will be at home when I get there, it'll take about 20 minutes to get it on snow. If it's not here I can at least rest easy knowing once it does get here it won't take long to finish the repairs, and enjoy that little 400. I've got friends coming over to ride tomorrow so pleaasseee have my parts at home today usps. I hate being the slow one in the bunch lol. :p
