Default skis

I'm working on a 96 touring le for someone and I had gotten skis and told they would fit. I went to mount them and they are too wide between the rails. the touring is "1 3/4 between rails and the skis I got are "2 1/2. I asked the guy I got them from and he said they were from a 03-08 tundra. Would it work if I made spacers to fill the gap between the ski mount and rails. I got the skis for cheap so I would like to use them and save $150 for a new set for the touring.
