it states the specs on a 97 trail as
main jet 230
air screw out 1.5 turns
a 98 is as follows
air screw out 1 turn
Your slow speed issues are most likely some dirty carbs or someone prolly messed with the air screws.
I know all 97s were set up rich due to the extended warranty offered. Maybe thats why the specs are diff. I have little info on the old ones but usually there was a decal placed under the hood that had all of the info for the sled.
