Default Polaris indy 600 brake light troubles

I just got a new brake light and put it in, then started the snowmobile and the light did not work. i seen there was a brake light harnes under the hood, it had like two prong hook up thang, on polaris parts page it calls it a brake light switch, so i want to know if there should be a swith hooked up to that harness

New OEM brake light or new LED brake light?

Did it work before you changed the light or did you get the sled that way?

Default 1987 polaris indy brake light problems

i got a new light bulb for the brake lights and installed it, then started the sled and the light did not work, i looked at the harness, and the only thing i could find was a brake light harness that has a two prong hook up right behind the console by the key. and there was nothing hooked up to that harness, polaris calls that harness a brake light harness switch, so i was wandering if there should be a switch that hooks up to that harness

Start the sled, jump a wire across the brake light switch located on the brake caliper. If the brake lights up, the switch is bad. If it isn't, the wiring is messed up or your bulb socket in the back is corroded.

I'm not sure what harness you are speaking of, do you have a picture?

And please don't double post. I'm going to merge this thread with the other one you started in Polaris general discussion.

Don't you have an 87? That diagram is for a 91.

Connector #17 in that diagram attaches to the brake switch on the caliper. Take the connector off the brake switch, and jump a wire across the two terminals IN the connector. If you're referring to the other end of that harness, that goes under your fuel tank, under the seat, to the back.

OK so you sent me some pics. First, clean all the contact points on this connector and the actual switch.

The part labeled "this" is the connector.
The part labeled "goes here" is the brake switch on the brake caliper.

And a few other things. Your fuel lines look pretty ugly, just replace them. A pinhole in one will burn down a cylinder. Fuel filter is cheap, I'd replace it too. Buy my real question is with the red carpet air cleaner thing??!?! LOL. Ignore the box that has "extra kill switch harness". At first glance that's what it looked like but it isn't, that's the brake switch connector. I didn't feel like changing it.

Does this help?

yeah i think that helps but the connector wire looks like a flat male connector should go in the connector, the brake switch is lik to round tit looking things, i like how you detailed the picture, also the red carpet thing, it came with the sled, so it works tho, and yeah ill get those fuel lines and a new fuel filter for it

I know what it looks like but it's decieving. That connector goes onto that switch. It slides onto the "tits". I wonder if someone else has a pic, none of my sleds have that style switch.

Slide it on this direction. Fuck it's hard to explain. The T's slide INTO the connector from the end that's farthest from the wires, but not directly on. Look at the connector from the end, and you'll see it's a bigger T in it, with where you can see the metal for the contact point is where the bottom leg of the T comes out.

WHO HAS A PICTURE THE_HOG's gotta have one. I'll bug him to take a pic of how it goes on if you still can't figure it out.

I'd take a picture of mine, but Ibreakstuff will criticize what it looks like under my hood and make me replace a bunch of stuff. Also it's pretty freakin cold out, and I don't know if my camera can take it.

I'm only being critical of things that will make his snowmobiling more enjoyable. If you have a piece of wire as a recoil rope, yes I'm gonna bitch at you. Cobbed together shit will end a ride pretty quick.
