For the clunking noise, check your belt. Pull it off to see if there are worn or burnt spots.

Could be something loose in the chaincase or chain out of adjustment.

Is it a roller secondary? I hear that they make that kind of a noise and if it does, need not to worry WL

Never mind - theres no roller secondaries in '03s - like others above, check the chaincase and check to see if your belt is bad (try another new belt) WL

I had a clunking noise on my 2002 Summit. It turned out the brakekey was bad and it took care of the problem.

Normally clunk is clutch or chain case.
Go through them.
Find / fix the issue.
