Thought you guys would be interested. This Is the NDSU Society of Automotive Engineers Clean Snowmobile Challenge sled.
It's a '06 Polaris IQ Turbo LX chassi with a few mods.
A Bobcat three cylinder deisel out of a Kubota.

We machined most parts like the engine mounts, handle bar mount. The pipes we designed but sent out to get manufactured. The seat and gas tank are still on there way.

Curious as to why you used a bobcat engine?

That thing has to weigh a ton. Why the DPF and the muffler?

Very cool none the less.

The bobcat engine was donated and the sled is for a clean snowmobile challenge so we have to meet certain noise, emission, and mpg standards while maintaining performance and fun factor

That's what I get for not reading the entire post. Do you get more points or something for being the cleanest and quietest engine?

What fuels are allowed to be run this year?

You gotta take a look back into the CSC archives and see what has been run in the past. There were some interesting creations to say the least. I was on Tech's team for a few years while I was there and saw a few of them.

CSC judging is based on several factors;

acceleration
handling
emissions
power
calculated MSRP
fuel compatibility (some years)
overall design and innovation
endurance
formal presentation of design

It's actually no heavier then stock because stock was polaris' 4-stroke turboed touring engine. As for fuel we are thinking of running a bio diesel because it is allowed. We are one of two teams this year that is running a diesel engine.

I'm assuming the other diesel team is Buffalo. What grade of bio are you allowed to run? You guys have to have a fuel picked out by now, comp is in just a few weeks.

Put the dyno on it today. Got 55 max horse power at 4000 rpm and 95lbs of torque produced from 2500 to 4000 rpms. With the 1.4 gear ratio, down from 2.2 stock gear ratio, she takes off decently. As soon as you hit that powerband though, even with the weight, she picks up the skis.
