Wow, that sure is sharp. Original too!

What are they going to do with it?

What exactly is wrong with the crank? Bearings? Busted in half?

the cork stuffing plugs came out (well 5 of the 8) and the bearings injested them. which was the straw that broke the camels back i'd say. he brought it to us because it would bog really badly. after we diagnosed it and i tore it down. i figure he had maybe another couple hours before the pto rod bearing would have caused catstrophic failure. it still spins freely (for the most part) but it is extremely tight side to side. its right on the edge.

What are those damn corks for??!?!?!?

Just get new bearings put on it. Or find a crank. Any 78-82 crank will work (as I'm sure you know).

the cork plugs are to stuff the holes drilled in the webs to balance the crank. the holes cuase tirbulent airflow in the crankcase as well as allow a larger volume of air. the transfer ports most efficently when there is less area. so an old race trick is to take cork plugs and stuff your crank for more HP!!!!
