Default MN 2013 Season

The Rookie on this site already has a couple races up on me.

But either way, I figured I'd better share that I finally got my first couple races under my belt!

Like Kallin (dammit I have to check the spelling now).

Saturday May 4th was a practice day. I had a fairly gigantic secret, beings as I made a high roller purchase of a 2012 KTM thumper racer, straight from the dealership. I will admit to nearly throwing up in horror as I signed the papers, and I did honestly have to swallow a good four times when I started cutting into the brand-assed-new seat to make it ride-able for someone my size.

I had told a whopping four people about my bitchen' secret, but about the time I showed up at the track, the rumors were flying faster than shit thrown by monkeys!!!!

So, here's the reason I jumped bandwagons to a different brand -> Linkage suspension, fuel injection, ELECTRIC START.

Erm, yes you heard me right, my new racer has the magic button!!!!!!!

Either way, I don't know how to ride the orange machines, but I did have a knowledgeable person set it up for my extra light weight, and feeble ground clearance. It has the closest 6 gear ratio that I've ever experienced, so I am shifting about 3k more often than I'm used to.

Practice day went awesomely, and I basically spent all of my practice sessions screwing off and trying to see how my machine reacted to every input I delivered. The front end dived around quite unexpectedly, but somehow I never biffed it. Somehow, amongst all my survival tactics (ride slowly, don't corner hard, case all doubles at a predictably slow speed), I managed to get a lot of compliments on how "fast" I was.

I was dead tired and very sore at the end of the day, and prettymuch slept through the entire meal and movie we went to see after the practice sessions.

Race day was wicked cold, miserable, and windy (but only rained during practice). My dumb ass was too stubborn to listen to all of the "start in 2nd gear!!!" because on all of my other bikes, first gear starts got me a lot of holeshots. I ran out of first gear about the time my front wheel was 3 feet past the starting gate, so got smoked in the women's class big time.

450C - It was me and another dude who is actually a yupster hippie from CA. At one time he was a pro sometime in the 70s and 80s, but during the first lap, I kept up and shouted insulting things at him in every corner. When I finally called him a hippie, he looked over his shoulder at me and then went down slow motion in a corner. So I led for the next 3 laps but got passed in the last corner of the race when I was tired and his nearly 40 years of riding experience kicked my ass.

Everyone was hoping I'd smoke him, and I did my best, but I'll have to get him next time.

A new bike, lucky you! Nice reward to yourself after winning last year. What size is it? 2 or 4 stroke?

I agree lets see the beast!! I've even holeshot my 450 atv in 3rd, 1st is useless in them. Once you get used to it you'll be a force to reckon with, them KTMs flat out perform.

Class turnouts have been a little dismal. I'm used to riding with about 6 bikes, but we've only had 3 showings in each class so far this year.

Saturday still was an awesome time. I had to work for 2nd place out of 3 in women's open, and I'm still getting used to the new bike. 450C was last out of 3. There were some major track changes from last year and I had a prettymuch impossible time getting flow through any section but the whoops and tabletops. All the doubles had gigantic faces that sent things straight up. There were some pretty brutal crashes, but I managed to keep it rubber side down.

Normally this is my fastest track since everything is usually low, easy and perfectly spaced.

I hit neutral a few times by accident. Once was with a helmet cam, and I'm pretty sure there might be footage of me yelling something similar to "AHHHHH NO NO NO NEUTRAL IS A VERY BAD GEAR FOR RACING!!!!" But I don't know if I had it turned on or aimed right. No promises.

I managed to finish a race when my bike pulled my pants a good halfways down my ass in 450C. I had my jersey tucked in so there was no awesome shows, but I was still laughing hard enough that I nearly crashed a few times.

Lastly, the e-start button saved my ass big time! I killed it in one of the corners, and was able to get things going again without even putting a foot down or stopping. I had about 50 people come tell me how hilarious and awesome that was. It kinda felt like I was cheating, but it worked!

Today's race was cancelled due to rain.

What size is this thumper? Do you still race the CR in 450c? Text me the picture Rich. E-start is a wonderful thing. Cheating? A little, but the added weight balances things out. I've found that mud sucks. Kallin can't ride after the track has been watered until the big bikes make a few laps.

I am rocking a 251cc KTM SX-F

The big Honda is long gone, I'm kinda sad to see it go this spring, but up until this weekend, the Katoom was doing some pretty mindblowing things for my riding ability.

Today was a kinda non-typical race for me. 450C was first, and then I had two motos between that and Women's open. So my second race had me really really damn tired.

What did I do in Women's open? Got the holeshot, got passed through a rhythm section I have never been able to nail down, passed the chick back and held first place for the next three laps, while hauling some major ass, which impressed everyone, including myself. I hit a big tabletop, and flat-landed it, and you can hear me screaming like a little girl on the landing.

But...the 2nd 450C moto did not go too awesomely. I crashed three times. The very sandy track got dry when the sun and wind picked up....and nothing I did helped to control my front end from washing out in prettymuch every corner. I got the first crash on helmet cam, which got yanked completely off my head from the impact. I handed it off (threw it off the track) to a flagger for the rest of the race.

2nd Women's class I got 2nd place thanks to riding slow as hell because I couldn't keep my front end in control at all.

Can't get much better than 1st and 2nd. Sounds like a video montage is in order. I'm also sad to see the CR go.

Sunday had my luck turned completely around.

Firstly, my two motos had a good break in between, which meant that I could push some limits and try new things in 450C, instead of trying to save my energy for the next race (women's open).

Second, the Women's open was the very first race of the day, which meant riding on a pretty damn fresh track. This meant no tight ruts to throw me around. I can rail a line if it's there and wide enough, BUT I'm way faster when there's an open corner to blitz through.

3rd, we were informed that the Women's open was one of the two classes to earn the Monster energy holeshot award. Whoever got the holeshot in the 2nd moto would get a bonus prize, no matter their finishing position.

First Moto: Women's open.

- Got mostly smoked. I took the holeshot, but got passed right away and couldn't even get close to the chick in 1st. I loaned out my 150R to another racer, which was kinda fun to see it rip around the track a ways behind me. 2nd out of 4

First moto. 450C

- Got majorly smoked. Had a sketchy new rider clip footpegs with me in the first corner even though I beat his 450 in the start. I backed off to get some safe distance between him and I, because that dude was not in control of his machine at all. 4th out of 4.

2nd Moto: Women's open

-Gate dropped, I got the holeshot, and led the entire race. My nemesis killed it at the gate and couldn't catch me. 1st place out of 4, which meant a #1 trophy!!!! I also got that Monster Energy Holeshot Award!!!

2nd Moto: 450C

Got an awesome start, got nearly killed again by the sketchy dude, but managed to stay upright while everyone else proceeded to crash nearly once a lap. 3rd out of 4!

I got the winning moto on helmet cam, but haven't watched it yet. I'll post it up when I figure out how to translate it into a more manageable file size for uploading.

This weekend got put in the books as a very memorable one!

Keys to the race, get the holeshot, keep away from sketchy dude, and stay in front of nemesis girl.
What did you get for the holeshot award?
