Default CYI hauls the mail!!

so there i was, super bowl sunday. out in a bean field with just me, dork(I named my sled) and the radar. the air was a little raw when the breeze picked up. but warm when it went away, the air was a balmy 28 degrees. dork was having troubles getting going, the snow cover on the ground was very hard, and slick under the skis with good traction under the track. perfect trail track running conditions. as we glared down the field 500 feet to the little black dot called a radar. we at one end. he at another. you could feel the tension.

first run, very boggy no midrange pickup, no off the line power didnt even turn on the radar because he didnt want to go over 50 mph.
drop needles all the way,

2nd run,

great take off, engagement at about 5grand with not much more of a creep until 6500 rpm. felt very strong, radar blinked a 75 mph at me!! rpms jumped to 8700. which means i was right at the limiter point.

change from a straight 34 helix. to a 50-38 dual angle coated helix hole number 3 out of 5.

3rd run. very strong, my reach is now 2" longer than my pre run arms!! rpms are down to about 8500 sceam to a whopping 77 mph!!

change helix to hole number 2

4th run. do some throttle pumping for about the first 25 feet, then at about 20 mph hammer it. rpms jump to a quick 8200 mark, very hard to hold a straight line with the soft spots in the snow. skis are dipping into the soft spots created by tall grass. almost run over radar to another 77 mph run!!
over all i am very happy with 77 mph out of a 600. last year the f-7s and 800s were only running about 72-80 mph. there were some t cats and other "big guys" with modded machines barely breaking 80 mph. so I am excited for this coming weekend. the little bugger is quick though. 700 twins be afraid, be very afraid. cant wait for the second annual PJH run in melrose!!

now just need to fix a couple little water leaks and I think we can get some seat time on a trail somewhere?

Sounds like a fun lil sled ya got there

You should make a snow flap that gets peoples attention, then when they ask what it is you can reply with "If you race me you'll have plenty of time to stare at it goin down the track"

just read a story from some guys that went ot a 500' radar run. f-8 ran 78 and built xc800 ran 81 mph. i am super pumped for tommarrow, my nephew is bringing the zr 580 and has to run in my class as well. I might have to let him drive once and see if we gain any thing. he is an easy 140 lbs lighter!!

I rode both a new F8 and an F6 for 15 miles each on a demo ride up in Bemidji. The F8 is a pig in comparison, either that or this one wasnt running right. Certainly not something I would be overly excited about being the victor.Phffttt, my bone ass stock 800 with no studs with a .75 lug ran mid 90's in the thou.

Real men run the half mile btw.

well after a good day and bad day it was an ok day!!

the nephew started his day with a zr 580 bone stock that wouldnt stay running. pig rich and flooding out. first run was 10mph and lucky to get off the track without a tow.
second run for him netted a 42 mph run sled ran a little better. temps were dropping real fast. by lunch time temps dropped 10 degrees and his sled was running real good. he made 3 more runs to run a last run of 70 mph. on a bare dirt very slick and rough 500 foot track.

I made 3 runs, best of which was 69 mph. I couldnt get traction to save my life. the old zr cats and yamis were hooking real good and pulling strong. anything newer with a coupled rear end was having a real hard time gaining any speed.

an apex worth about 30 grand, apex hood, on a full custom tube frame, turbo, some fancy rear suspension. everything totally powder coated ran 53 mph. he basically got beat by a 95 indy 440 that just last year was 5 years of sitting in a field with the motor rust frozen. they freed the engine. got it started and he has ran that for 500 miles now. and beat a 30 grand sled.
as far as who went fast and slow on the track was a crap shoot. all day long we were totally suprised as to what sled went fast and what went slow.

on a side note. I got to drag a wildcat, and a couple polaris 700 xc twins. the wildcat was a tie all the times. and the poo 700 twins was a clear win by me and the wild cat.

I was a little saddend by the 69 mph. but in comparison, everything from f-5 zr800, zr900, t cats 900's long track short track studs no studs, there werent very many that made it over 70 mph. I could have ran 600 improve stock, there top speed was 60 mph.
