Question Lightest sled wedge style?..

Im thinking of trying to get the money for another sled. Im thinking of just another wedge. What is the lightest of them or will i not notice much difference in them? I had an idea of buying a complete sled without engine and buying an engine seperate or i could just buy a complete sled and engine. There is a complete 95 xcr 600 triple for 500 or best offer, but it has 6100 miles. Is this worth 500 dollars? I would offer him less but would it actually be worth 500? Im assuming its still for sale since the ad is still up but you never know since sometimes people dont remove them. It looks pretty decent with a crack in the hood and tiny rip in the seat is all. Do you think this would be a decent sled for me? I mostly just do ditch riding.

If the track is in OK shape I'd take it for $500 or less. You could part it out if you don't follow through with your project.

Figue it this way, worse comes to worse. Wait till next winter and at a MINIMUM you could easily get

$400 for the chassis
$300 for the engine

even more if you parted it out further

I thought i would post this here instead of making a new thread..

Im thinking of a new sled, Well not for this year, I plan to keep the sled i have now for atleast 1 season, Then upgrade. But if i find someone that will buy the 500 engine for a good price and i sell and install my skid and track, I figure i can have a pretty decent sled with little to no more money than that.

So my question is, Which sleds are made for taking a beating? I know my sled is basically a trail sled, and its not made to be ridden real hard and jumping the thing which is why i want to start thinking about a newer chassis..

Are any of the wedges set up for taking a beating or what? How about a 98 xc 600 twin? Im thinking that would be good sled for me, but not positive it can handle the aggressive riding either.

And im also thinking of a newer style sled, But i may have to come up with more cash for a newer one. I want atleast a 600.

Which sleds non wedge style are set up for that shit? Something on the cheaper side.. Around 1-1500 or so that would be decent.

In fact, I've got one of each that you could have for $1200-$1500.00

but I know you can't make the trip, so I guess I'll keep 'em both for a while longer.

A good sled? No

The mostest kick ass 700 Liberty twin that Poo ever produced right off the line was in '98.

So i think i have my choices ready, Even tho its quite a long ways away, A 98-99 xc 700 wedge. Or upgrade to a newer chassis, Im thinking pro x.

Who knows, I may even upgrade in the middle of this upcoming season? I want to atleast tear around some on that 500 liquid i just put all that time into, Then im thinking, If i can sell it, Ill have the money from other parts and everything, I wont be far from being able to purchase a newer sled.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/rvs/717990134.html Dumbass doesnt even give any info on the sled

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/rvs/749829854.html Not sure if or how much he wants just for the xc.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/rvs/747568147.html No pics, no info, But its an xc700 so i should maybe ask him about it.

It's an OK backup.....for ME. LOL Hubby won't touch it, and I'd be too skeered for anyone else to ride it.
It is not a good "young sledder" sled.
Besides, I currently have 3 extra sleds to unload.

Westman, riding my '98 vs my '99 is like night and day.
The '99 sits and handles very differently.....it's more comfy on the bumps, but harder to manhandle. If that makes any sense to ya.

bang for the buck a 98 600/700 is going to be a tough one to beat. you can buy an older sled but you will stick lots of money into it to make it what you want. the 98 twin sleds were great out of the box. you can pick them up at haydays or princeton i bet for about a grand.

For a grand i can prolly get that much fairly soon.. So if i do decide to stick with the good ol wedge for awhile longer, Ill be getting the 98 xc 700, possibly 600, But 700 is what im shooting for. There are a couple on craigslist, I think most are 600s tho.

Madcow, Know of anyone or anywhere else to look for something like that? Your in MN too so maybe you know where abouts i can find one.

bristows in stcloud at one point was pretty much taking offers. they had over 70 used sleds. they had a nice 98 700 rmk for 1400, I bet now you might be able to get it for a grand.

there isnt much difference between the 600 and 700 in the ditch, they had an adjustable rear skid shock that worked real nice. the hand warmers, and gauges on the 98's were a lot better than previous years.

How long ago was that? do you think they still got it?

My plan was to ride out the 500 liquid for a year, Then sell it off and upgrade, That was my plan for part of the money towards an upgraded sled, So i hate to sell the 500 already and not even use it after getting it all set up, So i dont think im going to do that. But by winter, Who knows, maybe ill ride it for half the season or so and see if i can get a good price on it?

So ya im kinda stuck at what i should do.. A newer sled would be nice, But like i said i just put that money, time, and work into the sled so i want to ride it out.

I guess ill jsut keep thinking about it and see what im going to do.

I would take what you could get for the 500 and run. there would be such a difference between the sleds it isnt even funny. middle of summer, now is the time to buy. at the begining of winter they hold there price some and try to sell you on the fact that you want the sled. in summer or spring they are pretty willing to take whatever offer they can and make some money. the longer they have been sitting on them the more they want to sell them.

Damn your right... But i would want to sell the engine during winter as ill find more/better buyers that need it, and get a price, And then i want to buy the sled now in the summer so it doesnt really work out..

I think ill post the engine up for sale, If i can get what i paid for it or more, Im going to seriously consider letting go of it, If i cant get any good offers, Then ill for sure be keeping it. I cant take a loss, I havent even got to use it yet.

But like i said a couple times already, Wouldnt you hate selling off the engine already after doing the work to the sled? It would be different if i didnt already set everything up, Mount the exchangers and stuff. If i removed them, there will be bunch of extra holes, wasted 25 bucks on OEM rivets, (not a ton of money) but that was alot just for riets.

I can throw my fan back in the sled, keep that for a second/backup sled, That engine runs great so thats good to go..

So you guys think the xc is best bang for buck? Do you think that if i can get the money, I should go for a newer sled, pro x, or whatever it may be?
