Talking Nutz in the Colorado Rockies

Wow! I just don't know where to begin, but I gotta start somewhere I guess. LOL. I don't know how many pics each post will take, so I may need to make a few, and Indygirl too, she is the bestest camerawoman ever! She got tons of good shots!

It was so awesome to finally meet Indy and RMKer. Good shits! I miss them already. :'(

We arrived in Grand Lake fairly late Sunday evening, Indygirl and RMKer were already set up at the Elk House. We went for a quick dinner at Poncho & Lefty's Mexican place, Indygirl already posted a few picks to show what a hoppin' place that was. LOL

1. Gotta love a Mexican restaurant that's got an old Poo up above the bar.
2. Margarita's anyone? (RMKer was "gay" and drank Jack 'n Cokes instead. )
3. Indy and Ripn
4. Our first taste of hilltop scenery. The views in Colorado are just undescribable, pictures do no justice, and I am jealous of Indygirl and RMKer. LOL
5. 2 miles out, $80.00. My husband enjoys breaking rental shit just as if it were his own. LOL Did a bit of playing.....right into a tree. Bumper. Next....
6. Somewhere above 11,000 feet. This is the highest we went, Indy's got a pic of me postholing after a pee break, lol. That was the one and only time I really, really felt the altitude. LOL.

Sadly, my mom didn't fare so well. After we came down, she didn't feel the greatest, and had to ride back to camp to rest. That's where she stayed until we made it down to Denver. I guess the altitude affects different people in different ways, but I am sure her coming off of having the flu the week prior did not help her situation at all, then us running right up to the highest point right on our first ride just did her in.

She was better in Denver, and much better at sea level. lol

OK, more from me after lunch, LOL, I barely ate in Colorado, lost 2lbs and need to catch up. ha!

Good to see you guys made it alright. There are some people who get altitude sickness and some that dont't. Just kinda how it is.

What did your husband hit? A tree?

Great to see ya'll had fun. As for breaking shit, ain't that normal? The term "ride it like a rental" has to be applied at all times. Besides, the bumpers on new RMK's are junk anyway.

Good pics.......bring on some more. I know between the 2 of you there has to be lots.

Going to altitude right after any sickness is rough on the system, it still gets to me and I've been living in it for awhile.

Yes - it was a great time - I miss them too :'( and when BJ rides, he has no fear!!! His sled took the worst beating on the hard pack and on trees that jumped in his way!!! lol

Here are a few pictures I have on my work computer. That ol' Poo hanging above the bar was pretty cool.

I posted pics of the cabin we stayed at - nice place.

Got a picture of RMKers stuck and Ripn's stuck. Yes the men were getting her sled turned around for her. Me - no stucky but I sure flew off my sled trying to cut hard in the crusty powder. No one got a pic of that ended up with a nice bruise on my stomach lol

Then a couple pics of the group and BJ cutting up thru the trees doing a wheelie!!!

Glad you're ok. Can we all say Body Protection !!! I know everyone probably gets tired of hearing it, but handlebars can cause more than just a bruise and a sore spot.

Anyway, just glad all had fun and returned safe. Great pics as usual indy.

I love the picture with the sled tracks leading right up to straddle that small tree. Sometimes trees have a STRONG gravitational pull. At least the sled wasn't going as fast as that one Ski Doo crossing the stream on YouTube. Did you like your rental sleds more than Hogger liked his M8?

Yeah - he was just going for a good hill climb and hit an area in the snow that launched his sled in the air. Did not have much time to react to get the sled turned between the trees. It just barely tapped the tree when he stopped. BJ had to go up top and take pics too, then he helped him out. lol

^^Haha, Rubi, #1 here is another perspective of that picture.
RMKer headed up that hill, hit a jump and was airborne for about 10 feet. the picture details exactly how close he came to kissing that tree upon landing. when he backed off, the sled slid down and his ski got caught up in a crusty top layer.

2. The view from almost 12,000 feet. Just....WOW.
3. Me & my folks.
4. Me & BJ, notice the hills in the back. BJ tore them up, and lost the high/low beam switch off the sled in the process. ($$$$$ number 2 for this trip.)
5. RMKer & Indygirl
6. SLEDNUTZ!!!! LOL

Okay, work actually slowed down so I will post a few more pics.
I posted several of BJ and RMKer riding. Can anyone guess what BJ is doing at the back of RMKer's sled in the last picture?!? lol :D
Notice all the beetle kill trees in the scenery picture - that is sad
Then I had to post one of Ripn hiking back up from the trees from her pee break :p She got a little winded there!!
Second to last is Ripn getting on the back of the sled with BJ to ride to the top to fetch his sled after he helped RMKer get his unstuck.

lol, it looks like he is crapping in his pants.

Heres a few more:

1. Indygirl ripping one on her sled. (j/k, I think she was swingin a leg over to get on, or off :D)
2. RMKer scaring some trees.
3. Ripn
4. Indy & RMKer
5. Ripn & Ripn's dad.

IBS- Yes, hubby barely hit a tree two miles into our first ride out while playing around off to the side.

Vertical- yes the bumpers are indeed junk, as are the IQ A-Arms. Whoever designed those should be hung by the balls. When we turned the rentals in, we discovered a bent A-arm as well, and if you all recall, my husband destroyed his on the Switch earlier this year. And it's not like you have to even hit something and wipe out or fall off for those things to just buckle. So we added a $200.00 repair charge to our rental fee , lol, but at least no one got hurt.

Rubi-The sleds were "OK". Different than what we are used to. Geared much differently. I'm used to a hair throttle and ski lift, lol, and my husband lamented that he missed his torque.Just like Hogger is used to insane HP, the altitude just kills all of that. so I can see how flatlanders could be un-impressed. But they were light sleds, handled decent. I'm not a big IQ fan to begin with, and the seat was not the most comfortable. I'm used to sitting IN my sled, as opposed to ON my sled, lol. Felt top heavy, different center of gravity, etc.

Mud-lol, RMKer had to help my husband get me unstuck, lol. I buried the track right up to the top of the back bumper in hardpack, so the two of them had to heave-ho together. RMKer said it was nice to have someone to help him get unstuck for a change, LOL.

All in all a great trip. Was great to meet Indygirl & RMKer, wish they could have stayed longer, and wish my Mom was able to enjoy the trip more than she did.

The only time I got to go to the rockies it was the middle of June. Not much snow except for the tops then I guess unless you know where you are going.
I wished I had a sled when I was at the top of Pikes Peak.:p

Sure looks like a good time was had by all. Someday I too will get to try it in the mountains.
