Default Anyone wanna go to the Snowies?

Got room for one more. Leaving April 4th (PM) and coming back on Wednesday, April 9th. Traveling from I80 west through IA and NE. I am headed down from NE IL and can pick someone up along the way. HOLLA BACK ASAP if interested. My guess is that gas/lodging shouldn't be more than $300 MAX... and that is going really high to round up.

Beginning of april should be pretty hard packed as in not alot of fluff, correct? I'm interested but not sure how my 136" ripsaw will do. Does anyone know exactly what I'd have to do to my sled for the altitude? I think clutching is all I should need, the ecu should compensate for the altitude? I'm thinking about it.

From my understanding... it is still good. I am sure there will be powder to be found if you explore. The guy I am going with is riding a Renegade 800 with a 136" and I believe a 1 1/4 lug. If you're sled is EFI than you should be fine. Let me know as I am actively searching a 3rd person and it is first come first serve.

Where are you staying? How many actual riding days do you plan, 2? You plan on being back on the 9th or leaving to come back on the 9th?

Going to stay here...

http://www.mtnmeadowcabins.com/mdtourw.htm

We plan to ride Saturday after we get there and settled in, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We'll be leaving to head back on Wednesday morning (early).

If we have 3 people, Jay is going to drive his pickup. He thinks 3 tanks of gas there and 3 tanks back.... so two tanks each. I don't know how big of a tank he has and what gas prices will be, my guess is around $75 a tank. Lodging would be around $110 per person. That puts us at about $260 per person (not including gas for the sleds, food, etc) ... so I am saying $300 to be safe.

We can bring our own food to make it cheaper...

I'll have an answer tomorrow. It's not so much the money it's the sticking 6 kids with my wife for a week lol. I feel guilty when I do my little trips and she's stuck with the kids all by herself. The kids just don't listen to mom like they do dad. Spending 5 days in the UP my son told my wife that I left because of her lol. I'll see if she thinks she can handle a week alone with the kids lol.

Will have to get RMKer to answer that question for you about the altitude. The Snowies are only about a 2 hr drive from here depending on the roads. Will have to see what we have going on that weekend.

We will see - would need to buy an out of state permit for the sleds to ride that one day. We will also need to check out our riding funds. Kinda figured this weekend woud be our last.
We will decide closer to time and keep you posted.

I find myself wondering what conditions would be like in april. Rmker and vertical_escape are gonna have to fill me in. Will the conditions be worth it?

Permit is gonna cost you a mere $25.00 each. You can't be quitting this early, you live in the west !!!!

Likely you are gonna find most of snow fairly well settled and firm in early morning and loosening up as afternoon comes on. You should be able to find pockets of pow on North and Northeast sides of sheltered areas.

As for riding, if you're not picky and insist on POW, riding will extend up into May at least in mtns. You may have to trailer in further to get to snow, but it's still there then.

We'll have snow in the area we were at this weekend up into May easy, probably early June. Snowies will probably be nearly the same.

I don't intend to put mine away for season until mid-May at earliest. Motor is finally nearing completion and I'm going to break-in this season even if I have to trailer in to do it.

Well the wife doesn't mind if I go. Yet on the other hand she also reminded me that the beginning of april will most likely be rainy, which makes for a very busy workday. We own a small company with only 2 mechanics and myself, when very busy all 3 of us are very busy. Winter is our slowest time and I can take time off at will but the other 3 seasons are the opposite. We are already picking up significantly and I don't expect it to drop off while I go riding lol.
If you can find someone else that can for sure go, go ahead. I really want to go but I wouldn't know for sure if I could until the time rolled around. Should you not find anyone and the time gets here work is slow, I'll be on it!! This blows!! I told my wife I was going to go and she asked me what I'd do if work was busy, I was the deer in headlights lol.

Ha! So she let you go and then stumped you with another question. This is all good training for us who aren't married LOL. I have a gf and told her I am going LOL. She said have fun and be careful. Maybe I'll just never get married LOL. I hear ya about work and things picking up and totally understand. This went from needing 1 to go to having 4-5 who want to go and thinking about possibly getting two vehicles/trailers LOL. You had first dibs so I had to wait to tell anyone they are in. We still could end up having room since plans always change with a larger group. If not this year than next year for sure. My plan is to get 2 to 3 "out west" trips in a year. Riding the UP is fun but the flatland gets boring after a while. I'll keep you posted and I am sure we can figure out a way to get you in on the trip if things change.

IF work is slow come the beginning of april I may even follow you guys in my truck if need be lol. If work is slow I'll find a way to come.
Next year I plan to do a week long trip out west but I need to plan it during our slow times so I know I can make it.
Owning a company has good and bad sides I guess lol. Unfortunately I'm not only married to my wife but I'm married to our company too.
